International Disaster Relief - May 2008

While the VCF is committed to promoting healthy and vital Vermont communities and increasing the effectiveness of Vermont philanthropy, there are times when world events cause us to broaden our lens. For example, the VCF provided information and support to Vermont philanthropists interested in responding to the crises caused by the Asian Tsunami in 2004 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar (also known as Burma) and the earthquake in China call for the VCF to provide information for Vermont philanthropists wishing to assist the millions of victims of these disasters.

Below is a list of respected relief organizations that are currently providing aid to the people of the Irrawaddy Delta in Myanmar and Sichuan Province in China.

These organizations include, but are not limited to:

More information about these organizations and their work can be found by visiting the websites provided above. The VCF will accept donor-advised grant recommendations to these organizations, or fund advisors may make grant recommendations to other U.S.-based nonprofits they support.
