The Vermont Community Foundation...
- Was founded in 1986.
- Is home to over 500 charitable funds.
- Is one of more than 700 community foundations across the country.
- Has over $117 million in assets (as of December 31, 2008).
- Ranks among the top 10% of community foundations nationally for total assets and gifts received.
- Is Vermont’s largest foundation in terms of asset size.
- Awarded $10 million in grants in 2008. Most of these grants were made at the recommendation of individuals and organizations who have established a fund with the Foundation.
Other Interesting Facts - Had one two-drawer file cabinet and one typewriter when it first opened.
- Its first office was in the Battell Block in Middlebury, Vermont. Other homes have included the Painter House; half of a building that housed a small animal clinic in Cornwall, Vermont; and 29 Court Street.
- Its current home at 3 Court Street was once a Masonic Lodge, home to the Valley Voice, and housed a newspaper and cigarette store.
- Is developing a carbon budget to decrease its carbon footprint and is participating in CVPS’ Cow Power Program.
- Uses worms & a worm bin to recycle food scraps and other organic material into a valuable soil amendment called vermicompost, or worm compost.
